Frequently asked questions

Is TVET free in Malaysia?

Many government TVET programmes charge no tuition and pay trainees a monthly allowance, particularly at ILP, ADTEC and GiatMARA. Private TVET providers do charge fees, though HRD Corp and state schemes often subsidise them substantially.

What is SKM and how many levels are there?

SKM (Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia) is the national skills certification, running from Level 1 to Level 5. Levels 1–3 are certificates, Level 4 is equivalent to a diploma and Level 5 to an advanced diploma, so the ladder reaches degree-adjacent standing.

Can TVET graduates continue to a degree?

Yes. SKM Level 4 and above can be used to enter a bachelor's degree at technical universities such as UTHM, UTeM and UniMAP, or at UniKL. Some universities also accept SKM Level 3 into a diploma first.
