Nursing Lecturer
Education
Demonstrate and teach patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing students. Includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of teaching and research.
What you'd do all day

- 1Evaluate and grade students' class work, laboratory and clinic work, assignments, and papers.
- 2Supervise students' laboratory and clinical work.
- 3Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
- 4Assess clinical education needs and patient and client teaching needs using a variety of methods.
- 5Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or assign this work to others.
- 6Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate or graduate students on topics such as pharmacology, mental health nursing, and community health care practices.
- 7Prepare course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
- 8Demonstrate patient care in clinical units of hospitals.
- 9Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
- 10Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
- 11Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- 12Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.
- 13Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
- 14Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
- 15Mentor junior and adjunct faculty members.
- 16Supervise undergraduate or graduate teaching, internship, and research work.
- 17Conduct research in a particular field of knowledge and publish findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.
- 18Coordinate training programs with area universities, clinics, hospitals, health agencies, or vocational schools.
- 19Maintain a clinical practice.
- 20Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
- 21Select and obtain materials and supplies, such as textbooks and laboratory equipment.
- 22Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities.
- 23Perform administrative duties, such as serving as department head.
- 24Conduct faculty performance evaluations.
- 25Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
- 26Write grant proposals to procure external research funding.
- 27Act as advisers to student organizations.
- 28Participate in campus and community events.
- 29Provide professional consulting services to government or industry.
