Education
Teach courses in business administration and management, such as accounting, finance, human resources, labor and industrial relations, marketing, and operations research. Includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of teaching and research.
What you'd do all day

- 1Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate or graduate students on topics such as financial accounting, principles of marketing, and operations management.
- 2Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.
- 3Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
- 4Prepare course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
- 5Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional organizations and conferences.
- 6Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
- 7Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- 8Conduct research in a particular field of knowledge and publish findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.
- 9Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or assign this work to others.
- 10Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
- 11Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
- 12Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and career issues.
- 13Develop and maintain course Web sites.
- 14Collaborate with members of the business community to improve programs, to develop new programs, and to provide student access to learning opportunities, such as internships.
- 15Perform administrative duties, such as serving as department head.
- 16Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
- 17Select and obtain materials and supplies, such as textbooks.
- 18Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities.
- 19Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
- 20Act as advisers to student organizations.
- 21Supervise undergraduate or graduate teaching, internship, and research work.
- 22Participate in campus and community events.
- 23Mentor new faculty.
- 24Provide professional consulting services to government or industry.
- 25Write grant proposals to procure external research funding.
