O*NET's product demonstrator works in stores and at trade shows; in Malaysia the fast-growing version sells live on TikTok Shop and Shopee Live. Brands, e-commerce agencies and MCN studios hire hosts, often in BM and sometimes in Mandarin or English, and pay usually combines a basic salary with sales commission. Many people also host their own shops as a side income.

How people get into it here
No formal qualification is needed; employers hire SPM leavers who are confident on camera and can sell. A certificate or diploma in marketing, e-commerce or mass communication, or a portfolio of your own live sessions, helps you move up to senior host or live-commerce executive.
Demand
A Kearney study launched by the Economy Minister in 2026 estimates that TikTok's ecosystem, including livestream selling on TikTok Shop, supported 147,000 jobs in Malaysia in 2025. What you'd do all day

  8. 8Set up and arrange displays or demonstration areas to attract the attention of prospective customers.
  9. 9Identify interested and qualified customers to provide them with additional information.
  10. 10Visit trade shows, stores, community organizations, or other venues to demonstrate products or services or to answer questions from potential customers.
  11. 11Transport, assemble, and disassemble materials used in presentations.
  12. 12Practice demonstrations to ensure that they will run smoothly.
  13. 13Learn about competitors' products or consumers' interests or concerns to answer questions or provide more complete information.
