Builds and dismantles the temporary scaffolding used on high-rise sites, factories and oil and gas plants, following strict safety rules. SPM leavers can train on CIDB or NIOSH scaffolding courses (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced) to get a competency certificate and register as a skilled worker.

You can enter this career straight after SPM. A degree is optional, not required.

How people get into it here: Sat for SPM (age 17–35 for CIDB youth programmes) → Scaffold Erection Level 1 at an Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) centre or NIOSH Basic Scaffold Erector (SCF1) → CIDB competency certificate and CIDB green card → work on construction or plant turnaround projects → Intermediate and Advanced Scaffold Erector → scaffolding supervisor or inspector. Offshore work also needs safety certificates such as T-BOSIET.
Registration required: CIDB skilled construction worker competency certificate (Scaffold Erector) and CIDB green card; eligible for DOSH (JKKP) registration
