Develops and tests rubber and plastic compounds and checks product quality for glove, latex, tyre and plastics factories, a big industry in Malaysia. Entry is a diploma or degree in polymer technology, chemistry or chemical engineering, with PRIM/UniKL rubber technology qualifications as a bonus.

You can enter this career straight after SPM. A degree is optional, not required.

How people get into it here: SPM with Chemistry and Mathematics → diploma in polymer, chemical or rubber technology (e.g. UniKL MICET) to start as a lab or QC technician, or a degree in polymer technology, chemistry or chemical engineering for chemist/technologist roles → build up with the Plastics & Rubber Institute Malaysia (PRIM) qualifications such as GPRIM or the Professional Graduateship in Rubber Technology (PGRT).
