Runs, loads and checks machines on a factory production line, often in electrical and electronics (E&E) plants in Penang, Kulim and Johor, usually on rotating shifts. Pay starts at the RM1,700 minimum wage, with shift allowances and overtime on top, and experienced operators can move up to line leader or technician.

You can enter this career straight after SPM. A degree is optional, not required.

How people get into it here: Apply directly to factories after SPM. Many hire school leavers and train them on the job. A TVET certificate such as SKM in electrical, electronics or mechatronics, or a course at an ILP or ADTEC, helps you move up to technician roles later.
