Industrial Blaster & Protective Coating Painter
StableSkilled Trades
Skilled worker who abrasive-blasts steel clean and applies anti-corrosion coatings to offshore platforms, storage tanks, pipelines, bridges and ships. You can start after SPM as a helper and must get CIDB's Blaster & Painter competency certificate (SKKP) to work as a skilled tradesperson; coating inspectors later earn industry certifications.
You can enter this career straight after SPM. A degree is optional, not required.

- SPM (or no formal minimum for helpers) → work as a blasting/painting helper for at least 6 months, or take CIDB-recognised skills training → pass CIDB's Penilaian Kompetensi Kemahiran (PKK) for Blaster & Painter to get the SKKP certificate → offshore work also needs safety passes such as NIOSH/OGSP → with experience, move up to supervisor or coating inspector.
