Checks whether a company's financial statements and controls are accurate and follow the rules. External auditors work at audit firms (Big 4 and local firms) and internal auditors work inside banks, GLCs and corporates, unlike accountants, who prepare the accounts.

You can enter this career straight after SPM. A degree is optional, not required.

How people get into it here: SPM (credit in Maths and English) → Diploma in Accounting, Foundation or ACCA foundation papers → MIA-recognised accounting degree or professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, MICPA, CA ANZ) → audit assistant/associate at an audit firm → MIA Chartered Accountant. Signing company audits later needs an audit licence approved by the Ministry of Finance.
Professional body: Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA); approved company auditor licence from the Ministry of Finance via the Accountant General (Companies Act 2016, s.263)
