TVET in Malaysia: Is It Really a Good Career Path Now?
Why TVET has changed: employability, TVET 2.0, salary signals, skill certification and how to choose a programme carefully.
By DegreematePublished Updated 1 min read
TVET can be a strong career path when the programme is aligned to real industry demand. It is not a weaker route by default. The key is choosing a credible provider, recognised certification and a field with hiring demand.
Why TVET is getting attention
Malaysia's TVET 2.0 push focuses on high-demand fields such as robotics, AI, IoT, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing. News reports in 2026 highlighted strong TVET employability and salary signals. Sources: Malay Mail on MARA TVET and The Edge on TVET jobs.
TVET is not one thing
TVET includes polytechnics, community colleges, ILP, GIATMARA, IKBN, MARA institutions and private providers. Quality and outcomes differ, so check accreditation, equipment, industry partners and placement support.
Who should consider TVET
TVET suits hands-on learners, students who want earlier work entry, and people drawn to technical fields like electrical, automotive, welding, HVAC, robotics, machine operations, culinary, beauty, healthcare support or digital technology.
How to choose
Ask: what certificate will I receive, who recognises it, what jobs did graduates get, what equipment will I use, and does the provider have employer partnerships?
