A UiTM diploma needs SPM with at least three credits including Bahasa Melayu, plus a pass in Sejarah, and then the specific subject requirements of the programme you choose. UiTM is open only to Malaysian citizens who are Malay, Anak Negeri Sabah, Anak Negeri Sarawak or Orang Asli. The main intake is applied for through UPUOnline, and a second intake through UiTM's own portal.
UPM offers one foundation programme through UPUOnline: Asasi Sains Pertanian, two semesters at the Serdang campus. For the 2026/2027 session it needed B in four of five named science subjects, C in Additional Mathematics and C+ in English. It is open to all qualified candidates, and despite the name its graduates can apply to any UPM degree, subject to each programme's requirements.
Asasi UIAM is a one-year foundation at the Centre for Foundation Studies in Gambang, Pahang, with 20 programmes listed in UPUOnline for the 2026/2027 session. SPM leavers apply through UPUOnline for the main intake. In UPU every programme is for Bumiputera candidates only and requires at least B in an Islamic studies subject. IIUM also runs a separate direct channel through IIUM Academy.
ASASIpintar is the only foundation programme UKM offers to SPM leavers. For the 2026/2027 session it needed at least A- in seven subjects: Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry, plus a pass in the centre's test and/or interview. It runs for two semesters at the Bangi campus, is open to all qualified Malaysians, and is applied for through UPUOnline.

For the 2026/2027 session, Science and Engineering needed one A- and three Bs across four named science and mathematics subjects, plus B in English.

In the 2026 cycle the UPU appeal ran from noon on 2 July to 5pm on 6 July — under five days, eight weeks after offers were announced on 6 May. An appeal redistributes places left by students who declined or failed to register, which is why it works often enough to always be worth filing.
Not receiving a UPU offer closes one cycle of the public system, not your education. There are four routes back in — appeal, private study, the diploma ladder and TVET — and three of them can be started in the same month you get the bad news.
UPU is the single application portal for public universities, polytechnics and Asasi programmes. You get one submission, a ranked list of choices, and one shot per cycle. Understanding how merit and choice order interact is worth more than any last-minute grade improvement.
