MUET on Demand (MoD): Fees, Dates, How to Register and Who Should Use It

MUET on Demand (MoD) is the same MUET test run by Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia on extra dates outside the three regular sessions. It costs RM250 for Malaysians against RM150 for a regular session, its 2026 calendar lists 20 sittings from January to December, and results are released within 14 working days. It suits candidates who missed a regular registration or need a band quickly.

MUET on Demand, usually shortened to MoD, is not a different test. Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia (MPM) introduced it in June 2018 as an additional way of running MUET, and its gazette notice says the standard of the papers is the same as the regular sessions and that MoD uses the same regulations, test specification, format and sample questions. The band on an MoD result is a MUET band.

The regular fee is from MPM's 2026 registration guide and the MoD fee is from MPM's MoD registration guide updated on 21 March 2025. One caution: MPM's older regulations booklet, last updated in January 2021, prints a different MoD fee for Malaysians. Pay the amount shown in the registration system on the day you register.

For the paper-by-paper format, see the MUET format guide.

How the day runs

MPM's 2026 MoD timetable puts all four papers on one day for face-to-face candidates: Reading from 8.00 am, Writing from 10.00 am, Listening from 12.00 noon, and Speaking in group slots from 2.30 pm. An online speaking test is held on an earlier date listed in the MoD calendar, and the speaking date cannot be changed.

Remaining MoD sittings in 2026

From MPM's MoD calendar updated on 21 July 2026:

December26 October – 6 November 20265 December 202628 November 202629 December 2026

MPM notes that dates may change and that seating depends on availability at the test centre. Registration closes four to six weeks before the test, so "on demand" does not mean you can book next week.

A 2027 MoD calendar was not on the MPM portal when we checked on 1 October 2026. Check the MPM portal and /tarikh-penting for updates.

How to register

  1. Go to the MoD registration system at apps.mpm.edu.my/mod/public/register, also linked from the MPM portal. Registration is online only and opens after 10.00 am on the opening day.
  2. Choose the session and test centre, and whether your speaking test is face to face or online.
  3. Pay the fee online.
  4. Print your MoD registration slip (MoD/D), which is your ticket into the test, and check every detail. Corrections are free within the registration period; after it closes MPM charges RM50.

What to know before you pay

  • Withdrawals are not refunded, except in listed cases such as prolonged illness, a payment gateway problem, or an offer of a place at a higher education institution, with supporting documents.
  • Postponement is restricted. It is not allowed for personal reasons, needs official supporting documents, is only to the following month's session, is granted once, and costs RM100 for Malaysian candidates.
  • Appeals for a review of results cost RM100 and must be made within seven days of the results being uploaded.

Who should use MoD?

MoD is worth the extra RM100 when timing is the problem:

  • you missed the registration for a regular session, which closes about three months before the written test (see the MUET 2027 dates);
  • you need a band, or a higher band, before a deadline such as a UPU application or update phase, a university registration, or graduation;
  • your earlier result has passed its five-year validity.

If none of those apply, a regular session is cheaper and is the same qualification. Before you book either, confirm the band you actually need in the minimum MUET band guide.

There is also MUET Express (MeX), a faster and much more expensive option: MPM's MeX guide lists RM800 for Malaysian candidates and RM1,600 for non-citizens, with results within two working days of the test.

For how MUET fits into the application itself, see the MUET band guide and how to apply through UPU.

Source note: fees, rules, timetable and dates are from Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia's MoD registration guide (updated 21 March 2025), MoD calendar 2026 (updated 21 July 2026), MoD timetable 2026, the 2018 MoD gazette notice, the MeX registration guide and the MUET 2026 registration guide. Fees and dates can change, so verify on the official MPM portal before paying.

University Grading Systems in Malaysia Compared: Grade Points by University

Malaysian universities all use a 4.00 scale, but the points behind each letter differ: A- is 3.67 at UiTM, UKM, UTM and IIUM, 3.70 at UM and 3.750 at UPM. Only some scales have an A+, the pass grade ranges from C to D, and unlike SPM every grade is weighted by credit hours.

Dean's List Requirements in Malaysian Universities: GPA and Credit Rules

Most Malaysian public universities award the Dean's List for a semester GPA of 3.50 with at least 12 credits, but UM and UMK ask for 3.70, UKM and UTM for 3.67, and UPM for 3.750. A repeated course, a pass/fail course or a disciplinary record can disqualify you even when the GPA is high enough.

How to Calculate GPA and CGPA (Pointer): Formula and Worked Example

GPA is the total of (grade point × credit hours) for one semester divided by that semester's credit hours; CGPA is the same sum across every semester divided by all credit hours. It is not the average of your semester GPAs. How a failed or repeated course is counted depends on your university's regulations.
