How to Apply for PTPTN After Getting a University Offer: Step by Step

You apply for PTPTN online in myPTPTN, within the application dates set for your own institution and programme. You need an official offer letter, a Simpan SSPN account, a myPTPTN account with eKYC done, and a RM5 application PIN. After approval you sign the agreement, and only then is the first payout released.

PTPTN is not applied for through UPU, and it does not arrive automatically with your offer. You apply yourself, online, in myPTPTN — and only inside the dates PTPTN sets for your institution and programme. Miss them and that semester is not funded.

This is the procedure as PTPTN describes it on its portal, in its myPTPTN user guides and in its procedure briefing to institutions, read on 1 October 2026. For what the loan costs and whether to take it, read the PTPTN loan guide first.

Before you start: four things to have

  1. An official offer letter from your institution. You will upload it.
  2. A Simpan SSPN account. PTPTN lists an SSPN Prime or SSPN Plus account as a condition of application, and notes that only a 15-digit SSPN Prime account number can be used. It can be opened inside myPTPTN. See the SSPN account guide.
  3. A myPTPTN account with eKYC completed. PTPTN states that from 15 September 2025, new users can register for myPTPTN only through MyDigital ID. Without eKYC you cannot open the loan offer later.
  4. A bank account in your own name, of the bank your institution specifies, and online banking for the FPX payments.

Check the basic conditions too: PTPTN requires the course to be registered with it, and since 1 January 2024 limits loans to families whose parents' or guardians' gross monthly income is not above RM50,000 after deducting RM250 per dependant.

Step 1: Check the application dates

In myPTPTN, open Perkhidmatan > Pinjaman > Semakan Jadual Permohonan/ Bayaran Pinjaman and search for your institution and programme. Each has its own opening and closing dates.

PTPTN's briefing describes a first batch (kelompok pertama) and a second batch (kelompok kedua) each semester, and asks institutions to push students into the first, so there is still a second chance if the first application is rejected.

Step 2: Register the application (No. Pin)

Go to Pendaftaran Permohonan Pinjaman. PTPTN's guide says you must register a No. Pin first: either pay RM5 through FPX inside myPTPTN, or, if you already bought a PIN at BSN, enter the details from the slip under "Pendaftaran No. Pin BSN". As of the 2026 intake guidance this step is still in place.

Step 3: Fill in the application

Under Permohonan Pinjaman, complete four sections:

  • Applicant details and bank account
  • Contact details
  • Parent/guardian or spouse details — PTPTN says an unmarried student must enter their biological parents' details, even if living with another guardian. These details are cross-checked with the National Registration Department (JPN).
  • Study details — institution, mode, level, programme name, programme duration and start date, exactly as written in your offer letter.

Then upload the offer letter: one PDF file, not more than 2 MB, clear and readable.

Step 4: Confirm and submit

The system checks for any existing PTPTN loan and for your SSPN account. If both pass, tick the declarations and submit. An unsent application can be edited until the window closes, so do not leave it unsent on the last day. Confirmation arrives in the myPTPTN inbox and by email.

Step 5: Get the result

You are notified by push notification and email whether the application is approved or not, with the reason if it is not.

Step 6: Accept the offer and sign the agreement

Open Tawaran Permohonan Pinjaman, read the offer and choose how to return the agreement:

MethodWhat you doCost
Online (digital signature)Pay through FPX, then sign digitally in myPTPTN the next day. No witness signature is needed.RM25 (RM20 stamp duty, RM5 digital signature)
Print and submitPrint the agreement, buy the stamp certificate through the LHDN portal, and hand in two complete sets at a PTPTN counter.Stamp duty

PTPTN's portal states the offer is valid for 14 days from the approval date. Once a PTPTN officer has signed, you can print the completed agreement; the offer letter is displayed in myPTPTN for 60 days only, so save a copy.

After that, the first payout follows — see when PTPTN money comes in.

Common mistakes

PTPTN's briefing lists the reasons applications are not approved:

  • wrong institution or branch campus
  • wrong course or programme name
  • wrong level of study (diploma, degree, master's)
  • wrong mode of study (full-time, part-time, distance)
  • wrong study start date
  • wrong, unclear, blurred or damaged supporting document

Each one means reapplying in the second batch. PTPTN is blunt about the cost of not doing so: no loan for that semester, and no backdated approval.

Two more to avoid: applying late (the loan starts from the semester a complete application is received, never earlier), and assuming the WPP advance means you have already applied. It does not.

Fees, steps and dates can change between intakes; follow the official PTPTN portal and your institution's student affairs office.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PTPTN No. Pin still required?
Yes, based on PTPTN's myPTPTN guide and institution guidance for the 2026 intake. You register the application by paying RM5 through FPX in myPTPTN, or by entering a PIN already bought at BSN.
When can I apply for PTPTN after getting an offer?
Only within the application dates PTPTN sets for your institution and programme, which you check in myPTPTN under Semakan Jadual Permohonan. There is a first and a second batch each semester; apply in the first.
What documents do I need to apply for PTPTN?
The document you upload is your institution's offer letter, as one PDF of not more than 2 MB. You also need your Simpan SSPN account number, your own bank account number and your parents' or guardians' details.
How much does it cost to sign the PTPTN agreement online?
RM25, paid through FPX in myPTPTN: RM20 for stamp duty and RM5 for the digital signature, according to PTPTN's procedure briefing. You sign the day after payment and no witness is needed.
What if my PTPTN application is rejected?
PTPTN gives the reason with the result, and you may reapply in the second application batch. If you do not, there is no loan for that semester and no backdated approval.

University Grading Systems in Malaysia Compared: Grade Points by University

Malaysian universities all use a 4.00 scale, but the points behind each letter differ: A- is 3.67 at UiTM, UKM, UTM and IIUM, 3.70 at UM and 3.750 at UPM. Only some scales have an A+, the pass grade ranges from C to D, and unlike SPM every grade is weighted by credit hours.
