When Does PTPTN Money Come In? First Payout and Every Semester After

The first PTPTN payout is only released after you return the complete loan agreement. PTPTN states the money is credited within 21 working days of receiving complete documents, straight into your own bank account. For later semesters it is paid only if you are still enrolled and scored a GPA of 2.0 or above in the previous semester.

Short answer: PTPTN does not pay on a fixed calendar date tied to your registration day. The first payout moves only after you return a complete loan agreement, and PTPTN says the money is credited within 21 working days from the date it receives complete documents. The faster you sign, the sooner it lands.

This guide covers only the payout. For how the loan works overall, read the PTPTN loan guide; for the application itself, see how to apply for PTPTN after getting an offer.

From approval to first payout

  1. Your application is approved. The result reaches your myPTPTN inbox and your email.
  2. You accept the offer. The PTPTN portal states the loan offer is valid for 14 days from the approval date.
  3. The agreement is completed — signed digitally inside myPTPTN, or printed and handed in at a PTPTN counter.
  4. PTPTN processes the payment. The portal states the first disbursement is made once the complete agreement is returned, and that the money is credited within 21 working days of receiving complete documents.

Working days exclude weekends and public holidays, so do not count 21 days on the calendar.

A PTPTN procedure briefing prepared for institutions (published on UKM's website in March 2025) adds that loan payments are processed twice a month, on the 16th and the 29th, and that you are told through the myPTPTN inbox when the money is credited. Treat that as how the process runs, not as a promised date for you.

How the money is paid

  • Per semester, into your own account. PTPTN states the loan is credited directly to the student's account each semester, subject to confirmation from your institution. It cannot be paid into a parent's or guardian's account.
  • Fees are between you and your institution. PTPTN states it is not involved in deducting tuition fees. Any question about fee deductions goes to your university or college.
  • The amount is not the full offer divided evenly. PTPTN explains that what you receive each semester is after the takaful deduction and, if you cashed it, the Wang Pendahuluan Pinjaman (WPP) deduction of RM500 per semester.
  • No back-pay. The loan period starts from the semester your complete application is received. Apply in semester two, and semester one is not covered.

Conditions for every later semester

PTPTN pays the following semesters only if you:

  1. are still studying at the same level, in the same course and institution that was approved; and
  2. passed the previous semester's examination with a GPA (PNG) of 2.0 or above.

Payment is withheld for a semester if your GPA is below 2.0, if you defer your studies, or if you are suspended by the institution. PTPTN is explicit that money withheld for a GPA below 2.0 is not paid later.

PTPTN's own example shows the withheld semester differs by institution type:

SemesterGPAPublic university / polytechnicPrivate institution (IPTS)
1Below 2.0PaidPaid
22.0 and abovePaidNot paid (based on Semester 1)
3Below 2.0Not paid (based on Semester 1)Paid
42.0 and abovePaidNot paid (based on Semester 3)

Track your GPA early with the CGPA calculator — one weak semester costs a full payout.

What delays the money

  • The agreement is not complete — not signed, or the offer was left to lapse.
  • Wrong bank account number. The PTPTN briefing says students who miss the first payment for this reason must update the account number in their myPTPTN profile; payment is then redone on a later payment date.
  • Your institution has not confirmed your status. Payment each semester depends on that confirmation.
  • Application rejected in the first batch. You must reapply in the second batch, which pushes everything back.
  • GPA below 2.0, deferment or suspension, as above.

How to check on myPTPTN

Log in at myptptn.ptptn.gov.my or in the app, then:

  1. Go to Perkhidmatan > Pinjaman > Semakan Jadual Permohonan/ Bayaran Pinjaman. Search for your institution and programme to see its application and payment schedule.
  2. Open your loan statement to see what has been released.
  3. Check the inbox (peti masuk) for the credit notification.

If the schedule date has passed and nothing has arrived, check your bank account number in your profile first, then ask your institution's student affairs office (HEP) or PTPTN Careline at 03-2193 3000.

While you wait

Because the first payout follows the agreement, most new students spend their first weeks without it. Plan registration costs separately — see the hidden costs of university — and keep applying for scholarships.

PTPTN may change these rules; confirm the current position on the official PTPTN portal or in myPTPTN.

Frequently asked questions

How long after signing the agreement does PTPTN money come in?
PTPTN states the loan is credited within 21 working days from the date it receives complete documents. Working days exclude weekends and public holidays.
Will PTPTN still pay if my GPA is below 2.0?
No. PTPTN withholds a semester's payment when the GPA is below 2.0, and states that the withheld amount is not paid later. Its example shows the withheld semester is the next one at private institutions and the one after that at public universities and polytechnics.
Can PTPTN money be paid into my parent's bank account?
No. PTPTN states the loan is credited only to the student's own personal account.
Why is the amount I received less than the loan offered?
PTPTN explains that each semester's payment is after the takaful deduction and, if you cashed the WPP advance, a deduction of RM500 per semester. Any tuition fee deduction is handled by your institution, not PTPTN.

University Grading Systems in Malaysia Compared: Grade Points by University

Malaysian universities all use a 4.00 scale, but the points behind each letter differ: A- is 3.67 at UiTM, UKM, UTM and IIUM, 3.70 at UM and 3.750 at UPM. Only some scales have an A+, the pass grade ranges from C to D, and unlike SPM every grade is weighted by credit hours.
