Asasi UiTM Requirements: SPM Grades, Programmes and How to Apply

Asasi UiTM is a two-semester foundation at the Dengkil campus with five programmes: Science, Engineering, Law (KPM), Law (UiTM) and TESL. All five are open only to Bumiputera candidates sitting SPM in the current year, and you apply through UPUOnline, not to UiTM directly. For the 2026/2027 session, Science and Engineering needed one A- and three Bs across four named science and mathematics subjects, plus B in English.

Asasi UiTM is a pre-university programme run by the Centre of Foundation Studies (Pusat Asasi) at UiTM Selangor, Dengkil campus. You apply through UPUOnline, not to UiTM. The grades below are the ones shown in e-Panduan UPUOnline for the 2026/2027 academic session, and they can change in the next cycle.

What is offered

The centre lists five programmes. Each is full time, two semesters, 50 credit hours, and all are taught at Dengkil:

  • Asasi Sains (UPU code UE0545001)
  • Asasi Kejuruteraan (UE0520001)
  • Asasi Undang-Undang (KPM) (UE0380001)
  • Asasi Undang-Undang (UiTM) (UE0380002)
  • Asasi TESL (UE0222001)

UPU labels the first law programme "(KPM)". UiTM's own site calls the same programme the KPT or KPTM law foundation (PI007).

Who can apply

  • Malaysian citizens with a MyKad.
  • Bumiputera candidates only. The special requirements of every Asasi UiTM programme in e-Panduan end with the line "Berketurunan Melayu, Anak Negeri Sabah, Anak Negeri Sarawak dan Orang Asli sahaja". The UPU FAQ for 2026/2027 also lists Asasi UiTM among the foundation programmes reserved for these candidates.
  • Current-year SPM leavers. In the 2026 e-Panduan, Asasi UiTM appears only under Kategori A (SPM in the current year). It is not in the Kategori B list for earlier SPM years.

Minimum SPM requirements (2026/2027 session)

The general requirement is the same for all five: SPM with at least grade C in Bahasa Melayu, a pass in Sejarah and four more grade Cs. That is five credits including Bahasa Melayu, and a pass in Sejarah.

ProgrammeSpecial requirementsInterviewAverage merit shown
Asasi SainsB in English; one A- and three Bs across Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Additional MathematicsNo88.44%
Asasi KejuruteraanB in English; one A- and three Bs across Additional Mathematics, Chemistry, Mathematics, PhysicsNo86.64%
Asasi Undang-Undang (KPM)A- in English; C in Mathematics or Additional Mathematics; A- in any three other subjects (not English, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics)No86.74%

Asasi TESLA in English; C in Mathematics or Additional Mathematics; A- in any three subjects other than English; pass the test and/or interviewYes78.12%

For Science and Engineering, all four named subjects count: one at A- and the other three at B. And the average merit is not a cut-off. e-Panduan itself warns that an offer is not guaranteed on merit alone and depends on your rank, the requirements, the number of places and any interview.

Work out your own score with the merit calculator and read how the UPU merit score works.

Where each programme leads

The centre's own pages describe the usual routes. Degree entry requirements change, so treat these as a guide:

  • Asasi Sains prepares you for science and technology degrees at UiTM or other public universities. UiTM's page says Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy at UiTM need a foundation CGPA of at least 3.50, while most other programmes need 2.50.
  • Asasi Kejuruteraan needs a minimum CGPA of 2.75 for UiTM's engineering degrees.
  • Asasi Undang-Undang (UiTM) is marked as a feeder programme in e-Panduan. UiTM states that these students continue at UiTM only, and that CGPA 3.00 and above, MUET Band 4 and a pass in the faculty interview lead to the Bachelor of Laws.
  • Asasi Undang-Undang (KPM) students can apply for a law degree at any public university through UPU, with MUET Band 4 as an added requirement.
  • Asasi TESL leads to the B.Ed TESL at UiTM or other public universities, and to related degrees.

A feeder programme, in UPU's definition, is a foundation whose students must complete their degree at the same public university.

How and when to apply

  1. Buy a UPUOnline PIN from Bank Simpanan Nasional. It cost RM10.60 for the 2026/2027 session.
  2. Register at upu.mohe.gov.my under Kategori A.
  3. Choose up to 12 programmes; the first six are compulsory. The UPU FAQ says choices 1 to 4 are reserved for interview programmes, which matters if you want Asasi TESL.
  4. Submit, then print or save the application slip.

For 2026/2027, applications for SPM leavers opened on 29 January 2026, before SPM results, and closed on 13 April 2026 after an extension. You do not key in results: UPU matches your actual SPM grades with the examination board, then you update your choices. Results were announced on 22 May 2026. Dates for 2027/2028 had not been announced as of 1 October 2026, so watch the key dates page.

Who it suits

Asasi UiTM suits you if you are a Bumiputera student, already know whether you want science, engineering, law or English teaching, and are comfortable continuing your degree mainly within UiTM. If you are still choosing between routes, compare Asasi and private Foundation, read the Matriculation versus Foundation guide, or see Asasi UM and Asasi UIAM. To see what your grades may open, use the planner.

Frequently asked questions

Can non-Bumiputera students apply for Asasi UiTM?
No. For the 2026/2027 session, e-Panduan UPUOnline states that every Asasi UiTM programme is for candidates of Malay, Sabah native, Sarawak native and Orang Asli descent only. The UPU FAQ lists Asasi UKM, UPM, UUM, UMT, UMK, UPNM and Tamhidi USIM among programmes open to all qualified candidates.
Do I apply for Asasi UiTM through UPU or directly to UiTM?
Through UPUOnline. The Pusat Asasi UiTM pages tell applicants to complete the UPU application, and all five programmes carry UPU codes in e-Panduan under Kategori A for current-year SPM leavers.
What is the difference between Asasi Undang-Undang (KPM) and (UiTM)?
The SPM requirements are the same. The UiTM version is a feeder programme, so its students continue their law degree at UiTM only. The KPM version lets students apply for a law degree at any public university through UPU, according to the Pusat Asasi UiTM page.
How long is Asasi UiTM and where is it taught?
Two semesters, which is one academic year, with 50 credit hours. e-Panduan lists the campus for all five programmes as Kampus Dengkil, Selangor.
Does Asasi TESL UiTM have an interview?
Yes. It is the only Asasi UiTM programme marked as an interview programme in e-Panduan for 2026/2027, and its special requirements include passing the test and/or interview that is set.
